True Colors offers weekly community activities that are designed to improve the overall quality of life for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) youth by helping them to get connected with, and stay connected to, their communities. All Friday Night Activities begin with an ice breaker and include free snacks! Best of all, they are always free and open to the public.
These activities are facilitated by qualified community members who are able to donate their time and talents to the program; however in certain instances a stipend will be granted. All instructors are required to go through a DCF background check and to submit a Friday Night Activity Proposal Form, which can be obtained by emailing [email protected]. We will send you a form and answer any questions you might have at that time!
Hartford Friday Night Activities take place every Friday night during the school year (September-June) from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the True Colors office at 30 Arbor Street Suite 201A in Hartford. These activities follow a rotating theme; the first Friday of the month is Pagan Discussion night, the second Friday of the month is Movie Night, the third is Drag Night, and the fourth is Craft Night. When a month contains a fifth Friday, that Activity is a special Intergenerational Event. For the 2016–2017 school year, all Fifth Friday events are sponsored by Gay Spirit Radio.
Bridgeport Friday Night Activities take place on the first Friday of every month (including July and August) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hall Neighborhood House at 52 George E. Pipkin’s Way in Bridgeport. Activities always start with a brief ice breaker, and often include a discussion of current events or another topic suggested by the group. Games (including pool, air hockey, and many board games) and pizza and salad are always available; some activity nights also include crafts or karaoke.
Unlike our Hartford Friday Nights, these activities take place YEAR ROUND! Feel free to visit us at Hall House on the first Friday in July and in August!
