True Colors Annual Conference focuses on the needs of LGBTQ youth and their allies through a comprehensive annual conference. The conference includes but is not limited to youth leadership training, on-going support for school and community based gay/straight alliances, as well as diversity and support groups geared toward activism, tolerance, and social justice. True Colors also publishes a free annual resource guide which provides extensive listings including bibliographies, local and national LGBT youth programs, gay/straight alliances, organizations, websites, action plans, and more.
True Colors LGBT Youth Mentoring Program: Congratulations! You survived your adolescence. Now, isn’t it time to reach back and help someone else survive? Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning teenagers across CT are waiting for someone just like you! True Colors offers the only LGBT mentoring program in Connecticut and seeks to expand the quality of life benefits of mentoring to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) youth. All too often, youth who are (or who are perceived to be) LGBT are met with harassment and violence at home, at school, and in the community at large. The social isolation and stigma attached to sexual minority status leads to significantly higher rates of substance abuse, suicide attempts and completions; truancy; school drop-outs; running away and homelessness. For more information and an application, click here.
Family Programs provides support, resources, services and activities for LGBT parents and their children, as well as LGBT couples considering parenting. We also maintains a resource directory of existing support and social groups for LGBT parents.
Workshops, Trainings, and Seminars offers a full range of staff development trainings for educators, administrators, social service and mental health care providers, and other professionals. In addition, True Colors offers consultation services for agency and/or school assessment for cultural competence and compliance with existing State and Federal guidelines.
